The first thing that a young person should feel that he can share his problems with you without any  hesitation.

For this, it is very important to create a safe and trusted environment.

Sometimes young people just want someone to listen to them.

If they are saying something then listen to them completely and patiently. Make them feel that you value what they say.

Avoid being judgmental when they share their feelings. Your understanding will make them comfort.

Keep private whatever they shared with you . They will be more likely to open up if they know it is safe .

Sometimes young people are unable to express their problems into words.

Your role as a mentor is to encourage them to open up.

In place of giving them direct advice, ask them how they are feeling or what can be done to help them.

These kinds of questions will help them think about their condition.

Some people may not be able to express their feelings immediately.

So be patient and give them time to understand and share their thoughts and feelings.

Young people can often feel depressed during tough times.

As a good mentor, your role is to show them that the strengths they are having is key to success in difficult time.

Every difficulty is an opportunity to increase their confidence.

As a mentor, you can guide them so that they see the problem as an opportunity.

Inspire them to take care of their mental and physical well-being. Good sleep, regular exercise and spending time doing their favorite activities can improve their mood.

When they are facing challenges, explain to them that these problems are not just struggles but they can also be a chance to learn something new from the challenges.

Mentoring a young person does not mean just giving one-time advice but constantly supporting them.

Make them feel that you are with them. Even if the problems are solved, asking them how they are feeling from time to time shows that you are caring.

Ask them to break down big goals into smaller parts. This helps them deal with the problems and they will feel encouraged at every small step.
